Alaska Electrical Health & Welfare introduces Beech Street Network

Effective June 1, 2009 Beech Street Network now serves you outside of Alaska.

To help keep cost down - and provide outstanding service for participants - the Trust Fund is switching to the Beech Street Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), replacing the Multiplan PPO, effective June 1, 2009.

Beech Street is a nationwide health care network that includes 50,000 + doctors and 5,000 + facilities.  Like any PPO, Beech Street offers health services at a considerable discount to participants.

Please keep in mind that the PPO's within Anchorage continue to be Alaska Regional Hospital and Chugach Physical Therapy.

However, if you are outside of Alaska or want to obtain medical services in another state, you will save money when you choose a facility from the Beech Street network.

Beech Street is the PPO Outside of Alaska.

Your Health Plan gives you the flexibility to choose any facility outside of Alaska.  However, your benefits vary, depending on your choice:

• If you choose a Beech Street PPO facility, benefits will be paid according to your Plan's normal deductibles, coinsurance rates and out-of-pocket limits.

• If you choose a non-Beech Street PPO facility, and it is within 25 miles of a Beech Street facility, the Plan will reduce its reimbursement rate by 20% for the first $50,000 of allowable expenses (this 20% reduction will not apply to your out-of-pocket limits).

For example, if your current Plan provides 80% reimbursement, and you do not use a Beech Street PPO hospital when you obtain services outside Alaska, the Plan's reimbursement rate will be reduced to 60% for the first $50,000 of allowable expenses.  If Beech Street has no PPO facilities within 25 miles of where you receive medical care, this reduction will not apply.

It's Easy to Find a Beech Street Provider or Facility

1. Go to www.beechstreet.com

2. Under Find a Doctor or Hospital, click Search for a doctor or hospital near you

3. Under What type of plan do you have? select Primary

4. Under How do you want to search? choose location, doctor, hospital or facility

5. Under What type of providers do you want listed? select your preferences

Please call the provider or facility to verify participation in the Beech Street Network before receiving services.

Money Saving Tip

Remember, your Health Plan does not require you to choose a doctor from any PPO.  However, if you choose a doctor from the Beech Street PPO, you get the benefit of the Beech Street network discount, which could save you money.
