It’s Good for Your Mind and Body

One of the most powerful ways to maintain a healthy weight, develop muscle strength, and live longer is also one of the simplest. Walking can:

  1. Improve heart health and lower the risk for heart disease and stroke.
  2. Lower stress and improve mood by releasing endorphins (“feel-good” chemicals) in the brain.
  3. Strengthen joints and reduce the progression of arthritis.
  4. Control blood sugar and lower the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
  5. Boost immune function to help fight off illness.

Walk just 30 minutes a day to realize these health benefits. You can even break it up into three 10-minute sessions. Walk around the house while your coffee brews. Park in the furthest spot from the store. Go around the block to get to the mailbox. Take the dog for an extra walk (it’s good for his health, too)!
